The Heather Light Made From Waste PVC Pipe

Wednesday, December 26th, 2007

I love items that are made from scraps otherwise thrown away. This hanging lamp made from PVC, makes a very contemporary and unique piece.

Ironically manufactured from “waste” pipe found unused in abundance
on building sites. Heather actually takes her inspiration from a table lamp
briefly featured in the scarface movie. Let’s hope she gets a similar cult following. (more…)

AMMUNITIONS CASE WINE BAR

Wednesday, December 26th, 2007

Make drinks, not war with this Vietnam-era artillery case that was salvaged and renovated into a peaceful and rustic-looking wine bar that holds 3 bottles, 6 glasses and still has space for tools. Closed, it is a rugged and nostalgic decorative box; open, it finds purpose as a functional serving station. The perfect gift for wine enthusiasts or anyone looking to add a unique twist to the average bar.

Robots Made From Recycled Parts

Wednesday, December 26th, 2007

Do you have any broken electronics laying around the house? Maybe an old camera, or a mixer, or hand radio? Have you ever wondered what you should do with that broken stuff? Maybe you should make little pieces of art with them like Bennett Robot Works has.

Gordon Bennett builds each robot from items found primarily in landfills. The sculptures range from 14″ to 25″ and cost anywhere from $950 to $6,000.  Certainly for that price, these were not meant to be toys. (more…)

Childrens Eco-Friendly Torch

Tuesday, December 25th, 2007

I don’t think kids really care about the environment, I’m sure they don’t even think about it.  Hopefully these friendly looking little torches should change that, as they are rechargeable and will never need batteries. They’re really cute too, and you can choose between a cow, frog or pig. Just squeeze the lever to create some juice and they’ll shine oh so brightly for a little while. It’s good exercise for the arms too.

Nanosolar PowerSheets Promises Super Cheap Power

Monday, December 24th, 2007

Unlike a lot of other energy-crisis solving trends that are forgotten about faster than a blink of an eye, the award-winning and groundbreaking Nanosolar PowerSheets are on sale today. They’re cheap, ultra-adaptable solar panels that can be printed on the side of pretty much anything, promising solar power anywhere you want it. At today’s launch, they still slide under coal’s $2.1-a-watt energy cost, though they’re not mass produced at the scale needed to bring it to the 30-cents-a-watt level they’re aiming for yet. But if they prove themselves on the field, the demand would quickly materialize for that kind of output.

$4000 Eco Bike

Monday, December 24th, 2007

If you want to be elected ‘Ubergeek  of the year’, maybe you would like to drop $4.000 on a bicycle?

If that’s that’s case take a look at the Valeswood Pearl hydrogen-fueled, power-assisted bicycle, which motors up to 15 MPH and takes you about 80 miles before you need to charge the batteries.

When you’re finished pretending like you are actually pedaling, the bike folds up neatly and can be tucked away in the trunk of your 10 MPG SUV. (more…)

A Biodegradable Umbrella

Sunday, December 23rd, 2007

Check out The Brelli, made from bamboo and a “certified biodegradable canopy.” According to the company, the new plastic is completely biodegradable, passing tests certifying that it will break down in typical landfill conditions in one to two years.

It doesn’t look like it could withstand torrential downpours, or strong wind, but I’m sure its adequate  enough for average rain. (more…)

The Sun Table

Sunday, December 23rd, 2007

This is a project of Brooklyn-based Sudia Design Labs and designed by Devang A. Shah and Michael Low of Brooklyn. At first glance, anyone would pass it on as a regular standard table. But no, this one actually contributes towards making the world a greener place.  This weatherproof table is covered in solar panels and is able to produce enough electricity to power your laptop and other electronic paraphernalia, even a television and DVD player.
