Motherboard desktop clock

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

This Clock’s face is made from a mother board, with a used cd as a backing. Its not very big, about 5 inches in diameter, so it would make a great desk clock.

Motherboard makes unique and colorful products from obsolete and used circuit boards rescued from TV sets, audio components, phones and computers. They estimate they use 25,000 to 30,000 pounds of circuit boards bound for landfills each year.

Save Water and $$ With Green Earth Waterless Car Wash

Saturday, December 29th, 2007

This isn’t a gadget, but I think this is pretty cool product. Not only do you save water, but save money taking your car to get washed. If you have limited space to wash your car yourself, like a car port, this would come in quite helpful as well.

Conserve water next time you wash your car with Green Earth Waterless Car Wash. All you do is mist your car with the spray bottle and then wipe it down, no water required. The wash uses a cleaning method and ingredients that are apparently similar to what they use to clean race cars, but the primary purpose is to save on water consumption (the typical car wash, according to their site, uses between 20 to 45 gallons of water). Robots Made From Recycled Parts

Wednesday, December 26th, 2007

Do you have any broken electronics laying around the house? Maybe an old camera, or a mixer, or hand radio? Have you ever wondered what you should do with that broken stuff? Maybe you should make little pieces of art with them like Bennett Robot Works has.

Gordon Bennett builds each robot from items found primarily in landfills. The sculptures range from 14″ to 25″ and cost anywhere from $950 to $6,000.  Certainly for that price, these were not meant to be toys. (more…)

$4000 Eco Bike

Monday, December 24th, 2007

If you want to be elected ‘Ubergeek  of the year’, maybe you would like to drop $4.000 on a bicycle?

If that’s that’s case take a look at the Valeswood Pearl hydrogen-fueled, power-assisted bicycle, which motors up to 15 MPH and takes you about 80 miles before you need to charge the batteries.

When you’re finished pretending like you are actually pedaling, the bike folds up neatly and can be tucked away in the trunk of your 10 MPG SUV. (more…)

A Biodegradable Umbrella

Sunday, December 23rd, 2007

Check out The Brelli, made from bamboo and a “certified biodegradable canopy.” According to the company, the new plastic is completely biodegradable, passing tests certifying that it will break down in typical landfill conditions in one to two years.

It doesn’t look like it could withstand torrential downpours, or strong wind, but I’m sure its adequate  enough for average rain. (more…)
